Mission Statement
The mission of The South African Red Cross Society is to render services to prevent and alleviate human suffering and to foster human dignity in all communities by addressing the basic needs of the people in accordance with the fundamental principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
Executive Summary
The South African Red Cross Society currently comprises five regions namely Western Cape, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu Natal, Free State including Northern Cape and Region one comprising of Gauteng, Mpumalanga, North West Province and Limpopo. A total of 29 branches and 99 local committeets. Projects are community based. The Society as a whole participated in assessing needs in the communites and proposing projects that will address poverty.

Reportback on Tsunami Donors
The members of the board, management and staff of the South African Red Cross Society (SARCS) wishes to thank you for opening your heart to the plight of your fellow men, women and children in Southeast Asia and East Africa after the unprecedented devastation caused by the earthquake and tsunami of 26 December 2004.

Watching the Tsunami from the beach - a firsthand account of events
Dale Woods, a recently qualified CA from KPMG in Johannesburg on secondment in Tokyo was traveliing with Antonia in Thailand - specifically in Phukett and Kho Phi Phi – for their xmas vacation. Dale was at the Viewpoint Resort, up on the hill, and watched as the Tsunami hit. This is his story. The South African Red Cross Society is assisting the disaster relief efforts, both in South East Asia and in Africa, and is calling for support from all who are able.

A firsthand account of the Tsunami Disaster
Here is a first hand account of the day the Tsunami hit experienced by Antonia Bothner, a recently qualified CA from KPMG in Johannesburg who is on a secondment in Tokyo. Antonia was travelling with her friend Dale in Thailand - specifically in Phukett and Kho Phi Phi – for their xmas vacation. The South African Red Cross Society is assisting the disaster relief efforts both in South East Asia and in Africa (Somalia and Kenya) and is calling for support from all who are able.
