The empowerment of all visually impaired persons through education, training, development and care towards a fulfilled life and complete citizenship. Our vision is to provide equal opportunities to persons with visual disability. The Institute for the Blind was established in 1881 to meet the unique needs of blind, deafblind, partially sighted persons and multi-disabled persons with visual impairment in South Africa. It is the only organisation in Africa that delivers the full spectrum of services needed to empower visually disabled persons of all ages
Executive Summary
The Institute for the Blind creates an environment within which visually disabled persons of all ages can develop into adaptable, well-adjusted, independent and productive citizens of our country. The Institute is a non-profit making organisation that delivers a great variety of services to blind, partially-sighted, deafblind and multi-handicapped persons of all ages. This achievement would not be possible without the generous support of friends and co-workers.
