Amatola HIV/AIDS & STIS Project
Mission Statement
A non governmental organisation which is community based and helps the rural people of King William's Town district to develop their awareness on HIV/Aids and sexually transmitted infections. Reaching out to communities, primary and high schools in those areas and attend to the health of children in creches, to develop self help and income generating projects to alleviate poverty and to enable good nutrition by helping people to feed themselves.
Executive Summary
Amatola HIV/AIDS Intervention Project started off as a concept in 1998 emanating from escalating rate of HIV/AIDS in the region especially among the youth and level of ignorance shown by the rural poor people especially youth young adults and their families. Dealing with sex education and talking about HIV/AIDS, is and has been a taboo on out communities. Because of those reasons we came together as a group of concerned parents and decided to approach the community in the King William’s Town District rural area.

(ex Ciskei) selling the idea o facilitating awareness raising workshops on HIV/AIDS and STIS. The rural people especially the youth and young adults presented themselves as an idea target group to Amatola HIV/AIDS Intervention Project because of their Natural, social movement and migrant labour.

These communities have both illiterate and literate people convincing and educate first, the community leaders about this deadly disease and lobby towards inclusion of HIV/AIDS even in our churches which will give a great impact.
