Thank you for your donation that was allocated to the Freedom Park project. Freedom Park is an informal settlement in Cape Town with about 300 families living it.

 

We (the Development Action Group) are assisting the Freedom Park community with the upgrading of the settlement, i.e. with the provision of secure tenure, access to water supply, sanitation and electricity, and with the provision of formal houses, through a participatory, people-driven process.

 

The Freedom Park upgrading project is currently in implementation – the infrastructure has been installed and the construction of houses is about to start. The participatory nature of the process has required many community workshops, for example on the layout planning and house design, as the project is not just about providing housing, but about ensuring that people are empowered to take control of the development process and make sure that their development needs are met. Your donation has helped us to support the Freedom Park community in their quest for better living conditions and greater dignity.
