It has been a very nice surprise to receive the donation towards our Wildlife Orphanage and we really thank you all for your help and your concern towards our animals and children. Your donation is a proof of the trust you give us and it is reassuring to have you by our side when times are so difficult.
As we have lots of squirrels, falling from nests or abandoned by their mothers, we needed a big cage where they could stay during their care, before going free in the camp.

We were using boxes and towels but it wasn’t possible to leave food and water in it as the young squirrel would drop everything on his little blanket. It was really a mission to make sure they were comfortable and warm all the time. We needed a new cage.

Just as the donation through Greater Good South Africa arrived, we found one new baby squirrel, the amount was just enough to buy a new cage for her.

 

We put a nice warm blanket with a hot water bottle in the cage and can now accommodate “Lucky” in a better condition. Lucky, fell from the nest, she was traumatized for a few days, but she is very slowly, but surely, recovering. As she is in shock, she must be handled with lots of discretion, and only at feeding time. The cage is perfect as she can sleep without our supervision and walk by herself inside the cage without having all of us around checking on her every step. It certainly gives her better chance to recover.

Thank you so much for giving us your trust and your support toward this new cage which is an important tool for our animals and we are sure that many of them will benefit from this luxury “hospital room”.
