Give a gift for life - Donate a Book to a South African child

Being able to read and having access to books play a critical part in the unlocking of potential in a human being. When you donate a book, you give a South African child a gift for life - the power and joy of reading.

In South Africa, poverty excludes many children from the enrichment that reading brings. Far too many of our children grow up without experiencing a story read to them or holding a book in their own hands. Millions of South African homes are bereft of books, and so are many thousands of schools. Communities across the country are bare of libraries.

A brighter, better future for all South Africans becomes more likely if we are raising generations of thoughtful, independent life-long learners right now - and reading is the key to that!

Our 2006 Donate-A-Book campaign focuses on increasing disadvantaged children’s access to books. You can choose from the quick and easy Donate-A-Book options below, or you might like to find out more about the work of the beneficiaries of this campaign before you donate a book.

Quick and Easy Donate-A Book options:

R50 buys a book for a special needs pre-schooler
R75 buys a book for a Foundation, Intermediate or Senior learner
R120 buys a Braille or Large Print children's book
R1,250 buys a starter library for a special needs pre-school
R2,500 buys a starter library of 50 books
R3,000 buys a reading scheme for a Deaf Child or a reference set for a senior classroom
R7,000 buys a farm library in a steel trunk with books for preschoolers, children and adults
