The Parent Centre’s Teen Parent programme assists young parents to develop positive parenting skills and provides support groups so that they can better cope with the demands of fulfilling their dual role as learners and parents.
We all know how important it is to give these teens the life skills to cope with their role as parents. However, it is equally important to remind them of the importance of play – not only in their own lives, but also in the lives of their children. For this reason we try as hard as possible to make sure that our teen parents and their children can go on an exciting outing at least once a year. Sometimes this may be to Kirstenbosch for a picnic, sometimes up Table Mountain (with cable car tickets sponsored by The Table Mountain Cable Car Company – THANK YOU), sometimes to the Waterfront and/or Aquarium. The groups usually comprise 15 teens and their children and the average cost of an outing amounts to R125 per teen “family” or R1,875 for a teen family group for the whole day (inclusive of transport and meals).
If you would like to sponsor one teen family – or one whole teen family group – to have an exciting, playful and fun-filled day, and remind them of what it really means to be young and carefree, even if just for a short while, please let us know. We will then make arrangements in response to your request.
