What specific projects, campaigns or aspects of your organisation will you promote at the 2006 Giving Exchange?

Currently, we render a home-based Palliative Care service to the community of Buffalo City Municipality for terminally ill HIV/AIDS and Cancer patients. We would like to promote this service and expand this service into the rural communities of East London.

We have also increased our weekly day care support groups in different areas to daily day care support groups. We would like to expand this service to a child-care program and day care centres for our infected HIV/AIDS, affected and vulnerable children.

For the rural project, we need an additional vehicle and suitable premises for venues for the child day care centres. The promotion of these two specific projects could maybe assist us in obtaining a vehicle and finding suitable premises.

We would also promote Border Hospice awareness in the East London community to make people more aware of our services.

How will your organisation fit and help promote the theme 'giving is not just about money' at the 2006 Giving Exchange?

We have alreadywritten to the Buffalo City Municipality to apply for the use of an empty, unused municipal building. We would like to encourage other property owners with unused buildings to consider allowing us to use the premises.

We would also like to make use of marketing expertise for training our fundraising staff on how to raise funds more effectively and especially internet fundraising.

Define the Wishlists that your organisation will be promoting at the Giving Exchange.

  • Training of our fundraising staff - proposal writing, where and how to find willing funders
  • Rural project - nobody is reaching the rural communities surrounding East London for home based Palliative care for terminally ill HIV/AIDS and Cancer patients
  • Child care programme - specific child day care for our patients' affected children, as well as for our infected HIV/AIDS children
  • Hospice awareness - the community of East London still seem to be unaware of the work Border Hospice Association, trading as St Bernard's Hospice, do
We need more volunteer workers to assist us with fundraising. We will also require a truck and premises for our rural projects.

Define the volunteer requests that your organisation will be promoting at the Giving Exchange.

The specific volunteer that we desperately need is someone to assist us running our second-hand bookshop. A retired librarian or someone who is really interested in books and knows a lot about books, especially the value of books and how to cost books for re-sale.

Define your Do It Day proposal.

We are looking for assistance for training to improve our fundraising. Hospice awareness - community of East London and surrounding towns do not know enough about our work. We need assistance for our rural project and child care programme.
