READ is involved in an ongoing project that supports schools in mostly rural areas across South Africa in their commitment to provide appropriate reading material to their learners.
Through donations received for the Library Development Programme READ assists the schools in choosing these materials for their classroom libraries or, in some instances, for the school library.
The difference between a classroom library and the more well-known school library is exactly what it says: a classroom library is housed in the Grade classroom and consists of material that is meant for that Grade specifically while the school library will cater for all Grades in one room. Either option works well.
The schools that qualify for these donations are either nominated by their district as a very deserving school or are identified by the READ trainers working in each province.
