Taming Tahr

The story of “Tahr” the Border Collie cross who spent the last 5 years in the wild, roaming the mountains above Simons Town has received much media attention over the last 3 months.

TEARS was asked to remove him from the Mountain as he was encroaching on National Parks territory and posed a threat to the Klipspringer which had been reintroduced there. It took almost 3 months, but on the 12 February, after trying many attempts with tranquilizers, pole syringes and dartguns, five young TEARS volunteers caught Tahr with their bare hands, sustaining bite wounds in the process.

Tahr is now residing in a large property on the mountainside above Muizenberg and is adapting very well.

The donation received via GreaterGood will be used in the rehabilitation of Tahr. We send herewith photos of Tahr in his original habitat and in his new home.

Kindly convey our grateful thanks to the donors concerned. As we rely solely on donations from members of the public to fund our vital work of rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals, all contributions are gratefully received.
