Jana – Daughter of Thea our Projects Manager had her 2nd Cochlear implant operation in February 2006 and everyone anxiously awaited her ‘SWITCH ON DAY’ on the 2nd of March (About 4 weeks after the operation).
 
Jana is the first child in full time attendance of the Carel du Toit Centre to have this ground breaking second operation.  Her teachers and therapists are so proud of her achievements to date.  We know that she will surely blossom as she learns to hear with two ears now!

My name is Jana
I am 5 years old today 28 March 2006.
 
No one is sure why I am Deaf.  I came to the Centre when I was 18 months old.  I got hearing aids and that helped a little.  Then I had my first Cochlear Implant in February 2003.  In February 2006 I received a second Implant and 4 weeks later I was switched on (3rd March 2006).  I am very proud of both of my ‘ears’.

Thanks to the Centre I can’t wait for the day when I can go to my big sister’s school.
