Overview
The need was to build a small dormitory for the under-privileged kids who visit Daktari. The dormitory enables us to help more children who can stay for a few days to learn compassion and care for the environment.
What was achieved
The dormitory was erected and completed except for the thatching of the roof.
What did it take and how many volunteers participated
It took a lot of manpower and organisation. We had 28 volunteers, with no specific skills who mixed cement, combed thatching grass, and built the roof structure. The skilled labour failed to arrive for the thatching, and the thatching grass failed to arrive. Late devlivery by the suppliers delayed the completion of the project. One must bear in mind the nearest town is a small one about 65 Km away. Suppliers first had to get supplies to Hoedspruit, and then only could they deliver to Daktari.

Any other comments, feedback, thanks?
It was a success, but being so far from town we really need more time to organise the day so that we could have supplies and equipment here on time. All said and done, we met the challenge and the whole construction was completed on the day (except the thatching). A great day was had by all, great fun, new friendships and lots of sunburn and blisters.
What did it cost
27,500
