We require an upmarket effective and efficient software programme to support our everyday events, which includes the daily wellbeing of the animals, adoption, statistics such as sterilisation, worming, diseases etc, and the opportunity for the public to review our welfare organisation and what we stand for in the community. The software programme will allow the staff to have better time management in being able to access what ever it is they need. This is an ongoing programme in view of manipulating an existing programme to work for TEARS. We will also want the programme to link up with the website which is also being reviewed at present. |

Michael Evans an experienced software engineer and businessman (author of the successful www.energy.co.za service) spent the day with Tears Personnel looking at their existing system and compiling their wish list. An Open Source package from England, called Animal Shelter Manager (ASM)has been identified for possible implementation. Some of the dogs, however, are pushing strongly for a Microsoft based system whilst many of the resident older cats said they will feel much happier not having to pay annual license fees. Presently we are still working on the programme. |
|
Ralph Colyn, Mike Evens and Dee Dee Ferguson have discussed what options the ASM has in order to facilitate the needs for TEARS. Members of staff and volunteers have expressed their opinions and needs in order to assess the 'footprint' of the software programme needed for the daily functioning of TEARS.Mike Evens is presently working on document templates and testing the database. This will require an ongoing process of trial and error in order for the software programme to work efficiently and appropriately. There is no doubt however that this chosen software programme will work well in supporting the needs of TEARS as well as having the skills of our GGSA volunteers behind us. |

We would like to know if there is anyone who is able to support the training programme when it is implimented and if there are any companies who would be interested in sponsoring hardware for TEARS. Thank you for the opportunity in making the "DO IT DAY" a success. Through the implimentation of an improved software system can only mean more success in awareness, adoptions, sponsorships, fundraising and volunteer support- A BIG THANK YOU to you all at GGSA. |
