Daktari is a wildlife orphanage where we emphasis team work to provide the nursing for orphaned wild animals. Teams should consist of one person with disabilities and one without. Disadvantaged people are sponsored to have the same opportunity. It is a tourist attraction that provides considerable employment opportunities.
People always will try and assist orphaned wild animals, but usually when they become adult they become a danger not only to people, but also to themselves as they may approach unfriendly people. There are many cases where the animal is totally imprinted on humans and cannot be rehabilitated. At Daktari they can still at least have a life, and the care they are used to. In the mean time it provides education and more “hands-on” opportunity in wildlife conservation.
Many tourists wish to experience a closer relationship with wildlife, and this should not be restricted by colour, creed, or physical condition. Daktari provides this opportunity by ensuring that each person with disabilities is partnered with one without. The motto is “make a plan” to ensure that all participants have a life enriching experience.
The knowledge that participants gain from both their tutors and experiences is passed on to education facilities of all levels who wish to visit the orphanage.
