The need for the day was to offer a "spoil-me" day for our volunteer counsellors. Our counsellors volunteer their time to man our telephone lines 24 hours a day, to offer face-to-face counselling services at all of our centres, to facilitate our training courses, offer supervision to our counsellors, etc. In return for all that they give, we wanted to have an opportunity to make them feel spoilt and pampered in this way. |
The spoil-me day took place, as we had hoped, and it was a great success. |
A college. Cape Allied Health Services approached us and offered to send four student reflexologists to come and provide reflexology to our counsellors. They came, brought all of their own equipment, materials and soothing background music, and practised their reflexology skills on about 30 of our counsellors. We also received funding via GreaterGoodSA to provide fruit platters, fresh fruit juice and bottled water, to complete the pampering picture. |
The college provided the reflexology service. GreaterGoodSA forwarded funding to us to provide refreshments. |
It was an excellent link to make, with the college, and we were thrilled with the outcome. Our counsellors thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity, and felt spoilt and pampered, which was our desire. We have had further conversations with the college staff, and next year we are going to formalise a permanent arrangement with them to provide reflexology, aromatherapy or massage therapy, to our volunteers and staff on a regular basis. |
