The need was for some volunteers with some energy and creativity to spend time at our Guguletu centre, helping to create an AIDS quilt. They would spend their time at the centre painting squares of fabric, to make the whole product. |
This took place, as we had envisaged. |
A team of ten learners and their leader, from the FNB Academy, spent a few hours at the LifeLine centre in Guguletu. It was an amazing experience for everyone involved. Eunice Bidli, manager of the LifeLine centre in Guguletu, set up a few tables outside in the beautiful shade of a tree, for the volunteers to get on with their work. They had some of their own ideas, and, with guidance from Eunice, set about creating works of art and love on large squares of calico. There was laughter and chatter all the while the individuals were creating a colourful memorial that will hang in the LifeLine/Childline Western Cape centre in Cape Town, in honour of those who have succumbed to AIDS. |
The team of volunteers came from the First National Bank Academy. |
Despite all of this being put together at the very last minute, it was an excellent morning that offered an opportunity for each of the volunteers to offer a significant and meaningful contribution to the work that LifeLine/Childline Western Cape does in the HIV and AIDS lay counselling programme. Their work will form part of the AIDS quilt, that will be a permanent memorial to those with whom we work, and with whom we have worked, in this programme It was a challenge to put everything in place at the last minute. But we managed, and it turned out to be an excellent day. |
