"Story Steps"
Project
I have a desire to start a lending library of correctly graded books which learners could join.  Parents would need to become involved and would pay a small joining and borrowing fee and parents who cannot afford it will be subsidised.  The learners would be monitored and also complete reading age tests at regular intervals thus building self esteem and confidence.
How the project fits the RNCS
This project will be of immense value to learners; not only to those who are struggling with reading, but to those who wish to improve themselves.  An ability to read well results in a child :
brimming with self confidence;
with good self-esteem;
developing an inquiring mind;
possessing an expanding vocabulary;
having powers of deduction, comprehension and inference.
Although reading is viewed as the third learning outcome (LO3) in the English learning area, the other five are dependant on this one being good.  In other words, if the learner cannot read he will not be able to manage LO4, LO5, LO6,.  LO1 and LO2 are also dependant as these areas often require reading instructions before the listening and speaking can occur.

Our books arrived from Caxtons at the end of the 2nd term and we set about labeling and accessing them. (photos when film is used up ).  The books are now being covered by some parents and then the barcodes will be put on.
